Sithanda Ukufunda Literacy Programme assists the projects of the Trust with regards to literacy. Its main focus is to improve literacy levels through empowering and training the facilitators, parents, volunteers and children in Kayamandi. The programme also focuses on the establishment of a literacy room at Ikhaya Trust Centre. The literacy room functions as a multi-functional room which serves various literacy related activities.

Since January 2010, when the programme started, the facilitators were trained in specific aspects of the balanced literacy framework (an integrated approach to teaching language arts), sessions were held for students, volunteers and children gained more literacy exposure. The literacy room was established and equipped with books and suitable literacy materials. The parents of the crèche and preschool attend workshops to help their children more effectively with literacy at home.

The Sithanda Ukufunda Literacy Programme wants to help children become lifelong readers and writers who appreciate and love literacy.
