Sponsor a Child
Why become a godparent and what does it entail?
With this programme you can help an individual child directly. By being a sponsor, you do not adopt a child. The particular child that you sponsor will continue to live with his/her family and grow up in his own social environment and culture. But your financial contribution will mean that this child receives a proper education and care.
The main objective of the godparent project is to provide impoverished children with a basic education, which will enable them to attain a career and further education.
The children of South Africa are the future of the country and your help will enable a child to be part of an educated new generation and assist with a sustainable future for the country.
Your assistance as a godparent and as a sponsor is not anonymous. You can contact your godchild and you will receive regular reports from the GSDT and from the school that the child attends. No money is paid directly to the godchild or the parents of the godchild. The GSDT pays a fee to the child's school directly.
Suitable proper and safe transport to and from the school is provided and a hot meal is provided daily after school. Although financial aid is very important in providing care and education for children, personal communication with their godparents/sponsors is just as important. When a child knows that, somewhere in the world, there is someone who cares for him/her and plays an active part in their development, it motivates them to excel further. We therefore encourage regular communication between godchildren and godparents.

If you would like to be a godparent, send an e-mail to Mpumi Mrubata (mrubatann@ikhayatrust.org.za) who will assist you within 48 hours in selecting a child to sponsor. She will also assist you with the documentation required to become a godparent and discuss the method in which you will make your monthly contribution.
Monthly donations of R350.00 will improve the life and future of a child in Khayamandi. ALL donations are appreciated.
Is the sponsoring of a child a legal commitment?
No. You can end your sponsorship at any time. We will then find a new sponsor for the child. However, we request that you communicate with us prior to cancelling your sponsorship, as we will have to urgently make an alternative arrangement for the child.
A long-term partnership
We envisage a partnership for the child's entire school career. The sponsorship will end automatically at the end of the school career or if the family moves away from the area.
Tax benefits
The GSDT is registered with the Receiver of Revenue in terms of Section 18 and Section 30. Your contributions are tax-deductible and we will provide you with a yearly statement.
